Important Factors Affecting Your Tour

We strive to provide the best possible experience during your tour of Koh Phi Phi, a world-renowned destination made famous by the movie "The Beach." However, certain factors may impact your trip. Please read the following information carefully to understand how these factors might affect your plans and expectations.

Thailand's tropical climate offers beautiful weather, but conditions can change rapidly, especially during the monsoon season. Strong winds and rain showers can happen anytime and are common during this period. Some of these factors, such as rain showers, are often expected and may not be a reason for tour cancellation. However, in situations of strong winds or big waves, we may adjust or cancel your schedule to ensure safety.

If you need any specific information regarding expected conditions—such as tides or full moon phases—please do not hesitate to contact us. (Please note that factors like rain and storms cannot be predicted.)

1. Crowd Considerations

Given Koh Phi Phi's status as a globally recognized destination, popular spots like Maya Bay and Bamboo Island can be quite crowded, especially during high and peak seasons. Expect the presence of other tourists, which can influence the pace and space available at each location during your tour, potentially affecting your expected experience. We will do our best to advise you on the best timings depending on the season to enhance your experience, but crowds are a normal part of visiting such a renowned destination. Adjust your expectations accordingly, and be prepared for a lively atmosphere.

2. Weather Conditions

Rainfall and Storms: Rain showers and storms are frequent in Thailand, especially during the monsoon seasons. Be prepared for the possibility of encountering short but intense downpours during your tour, as these are a common aspect of the local climate.

Wind: Windy conditions can affect sea conditions and the comfort of your ride. We advise all guests to be aware of this point, as wind conditions may impact the tour experience, especially on smaller boats.

Temperature and Sun: Expect warm to hot temperatures year-round. To protect yourself from the sun, please bring sun protection such as hats, sunglasses, and sunscreen. If you're sensitive to sun exposure, consider selecting a boat with more shade.

3. Sea Conditions

Tides and Currents: Changing tides may influence docking procedures and access to beaches or snorkeling spots. The crew may adjust the itinerary to accommodate these changes, but please note that it may affect locations initially planned for your tour. Additionally, tides can significantly alter the appearance of certain places. For example, during strong low tides, Maya Bay may not look as expected.

Full Moon or Black Moon Tides: Strong tides associated with the full moon or black moon can affect our planned locations, making some areas impossible to visit. These tides can also impact the overall sea conditions.

Waves: Sea conditions can vary daily; the sea may be calm, moderately wavy, or occasionally rough. This can result in potential for rough boat rides. For safety reasons, adjustments to the tour route or schedule may be necessary, and in some cases, cancellations might occur. Some locations, such as Wang Long Bay, have very narrow entrances, and wind or waves (or both) may make it dangerous to access them. In such cases, the captain may decide to skip these spots for your safety. If you are prone to seasickness, we recommend taking preventive measures before the tour, such as using motion sickness medication.

Water Visibility: Clarity can vary due to weather and sea conditions. While we strive to visit spots with the best visibility, many factors can affect it.

4. National Park Considerations

Maya Bay: Because the docking area for Maya Bay is located in Loh Samah Bay, weather conditions such as strong winds and high waves can sometimes make it impossible to dock safely. National Park Rangers may decide to raise the red flag without prior notice, resulting in the closure of Maya Bay.

Bamboo Island: Bamboo Island is situated in the open sea without a proper docking area. Boats need to stop on the shore to let customers disembark, and shore waves are the main factor affecting access. Weather conditions may affect these waves, making access to Bamboo Island impossible at any time due to sudden changes.

Please note that Blue Flow Travel cannot be held responsible for such sudden weather changes.

5. Marine and Wildlife Considerations

Marine Life (Plankton, Sharks, and Turtles): The marine life around Koh Phi Phi is diverse and includes tropical fish, corals, plankton, sharks, turtles, and occasionally jellyfish. The presence and visibility of these creatures can vary based on several natural factors. While we aim to provide opportunities to see these incredible animals, sightings cannot be guaranteed. Glowing plankton sightings depend on various conditions; some may find it amazing, while others might not find it special.
Please note that jellyfish may be present in the area depending on currents and the time of year, which may make your swimming experience uncomfortable. Please always observe without touching to protect both you and the marine life. Additionally, please avoid walking or stepping on rocks while swimming, as there may be live coral that can be damaged.

Wildlife: Encounters with monkeys are possible during your tour. While these animals can be fascinating to observe, it's important to follow safety instructions from your guide. Please avoid feeding or provoking the animals to ensure both your safety and the well-being of the wildlife.

Environmental Care: Help us preserve the ocean by not littering and by using eco-friendly sunscreen to protect coral reefs. Please note that feeding animals (monkeys, fishes) in Koh Phi Phi National Park is strictly forbidden.

Your Safety

For your safety, we strongly recommend that you wear life jackets at all times. All tours and boats will provide life jackets. Swimming in the open ocean can be challenging due to waves and strong currents, even for good swimmers.

Due to the potential risks associated with the natural factors mentioned above, infants and pregnant women are not allowed on any of our tours (see terms & conditions). Blue Flow Travel cannot be held responsible for any issues or incidents involving pregnant women or infants.

We aim to ensure your safety and enjoyment, but your cooperation is essential. Please follow all instructions provided by our guides and staff, and take personal responsibility for your own safety and the safety of those in your group. Please note that Blue Flow Travel cannot be held responsible for sudden weather changes or any incidents arising from the non-respect of instructions. By understanding these natural factors, you can help ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.
